DHL Global Forwarding has acquired Uruguay-based Aero Cargas, marking the company's first direct presence in the South American nation. The move capitalizes on Uruguay's strategic position as an Atlantic gateway to the Mercosur trade bloc. Uruguay exported $5 billion in goods during 2025, the highest in a decade, driven by beef, soybeans and dairy shipments. The country's largest trade partners are China, Brazil and Argentina. Aero Cargas has served as a DHL agent for more than 30 years, offering air and ocean freight, project cargo and multimodal services. The acquisition aligns with DHL's 2030 growth strategy to invest in high-growth markets. Uruguay is expanding its data center sector and pharmaceutical logistics operations, with over $1 billion in annual pharmaceutical shipments flowing through the country annually.
