Estes Express Lines is deploying $56 million to bolster its cross-border and offshore freight operations. The expansion covers Canada, Mexico, Alaska, Hawaii and Puerto Rico through terminal upgrades, equipment purchases and capacity additions.

The investment reflects the North America's largest privately held less-than-truckload carrier's longer-term strategic outlook rather than near-term market conditions, according to Alex Peebles, senior director of offshore and international operations.

Laredo, Texas emerges as a priority expansion site, with Estes acquiring and retrofitting a facility to roughly double its door count from approximately 40 to 85-86 doors. The property includes warehouse space and expanded yard capacity, enabling operations beyond traditional cross-dock functions.

Estes currently operates over 300 terminals and service centers across North America and maintains 52 service centers throughout Mexico. The carrier, marking its 95th anniversary this year, attributes investment flexibility to its family-owned structure.
