Venture capital's scrutiny of logistics startups has fundamentally shifted from evaluating product-market fit to examining co-founder relationships, according to analysis of early-stage freight tech investments.
TitletownTech, the venture fund backed by the Green Bay Packers and Microsoft since 2019, has raised over $100 million across 80 investments with 35 currently active. Seven focus on supply chain and mobility. About 20% of total investments have failed.
Historically, failing ventures cited poor timing or weak product adoption as primary causes. However, interpersonal breakdown among co-founders now emerges as the strongest predictor of collapse. The fund now prioritizes how founder teams handle conflict over complementary skill sets.
"More often than not, the failures have come because the founders stop liking each other," said TitletownTech's co-managing partner. The fund's supply chain standout, Genlogs, succeeded partly because founders demonstrated unconventional problem-solving approaches and vision for an intelligence layer above fragmented freight data.
