Los Angeles police recovered approximately $1 million in stolen railroad cargo after tracing athletic footwear listed for sale on eBay. Detectives discovered 35 pallets of BNSF Railroad property during an October 21 search of DesignerDeals4Less in Chatsworth. The merchandise included shoes and backpacks from Brooks, Hoka, New Balance, Adidas, ON, Salomon and JanSport. Police arrested the business owner following the discovery, which the Los Angeles Police Department announced October 26. The investigation began after detectives identified stolen Brooks/Disney collaborative shoes advertised online. A controlled purchase established the connection to the retail location. This recovery follows a separate $1 million railroad cargo recovery at a Whittier shoe retailer earlier in October. In August, authorities recovered more than $123,000 in Brooks shoes following a BNSF boxcar theft near Ludlow, California. Two days later, authorities recovered more than $150,000 in New Balance shoes following another BNSF boxcar theft near Daggett, California. Authorities have not established a connection between those August recoveries and the Los Angeles investigation.
