Maine Port Authority Launches $3.2M Terminal Modernization Project

The Maine Port Authority and state Department of Transportation are undertaking a $3.2 million infrastructure upgrade at Portland's International Marine Terminal. The project is funded through the Maritime Administration's Port Infrastructure Development Program with matching state support. Construction began August 17 and is scheduled for completion in October. The work modernizes the container yard, refrigerated-container storage facilities, and terminal access systems to enhance connectivity across ship-to-yard, yard-to-cold-storage, and rail-truck networks. Improvements include full-depth pavement reconstruction, enhanced stormwater drainage systems, improved safety and security features, and new bi-fold speed gates at Gate 1. The upgrades position the facility to better serve temperature-controlled logistics operations.
