Miami Airport Operations Severely Disrupted Following Fatal Amazon Air Cargo Incident

Two of Miami International Airport's four runways remained closed Monday after a Boeing 767-300 freighter operated by 21 Air crashed during landing Sunday afternoon. The accident killed five people and injured five others. The aircraft was flying Amazon Air cargo service from San Juan, Puerto Rico, when it overran the runway at approximately 130 mph and struck multiple ground vehicles before catching fire. The National Transportation Safety Board launched a full investigation into the runway excursion. Airport officials warned of continued flight disruptions throughout the day, with some carriers diverting operations to Orlando International Airport. More than 200 emergency responders extinguished the blaze and managed a fuel leak at the scene. One person required extrication from beneath a vehicle. Weather conditions included thunderstorms and wind gusts reaching 30 mph, though investigators have not yet determined whether meteorological factors contributed to the accident.
