Miami Airport Reopens Partial Operations After Fatal Amazon Air Freighter Crash

Miami International Airport has resumed operations on two of its four runways following a deadly accident involving an Amazon Air Boeing 767-300 freighter operated by 21 Air. The aircraft overran a runway Sunday afternoon, killing five people and striking multiple vehicles before traveling approximately 1,300 feet beyond the tarmac. The plane originated from San Juan, Puerto Rico. The National Transportation Safety Board has launched an investigation with 32 personnel examining flight history, crew qualifications, radar data, aircraft systems, and weather conditions. Investigators recovered both the flight data and cockpit voice recorders. NTSB Chairwoman Jennifer Homendy stated findings remain preliminary. The freighter struck navigational equipment, a cleaning company van carrying seven people, and a Toyota sedan before stopping. The aircraft's right wing and engine sustained fire damage. Two runways remain closed, with cancellations continuing due to crew and aircraft positioning issues.
