A survey of 103 industry experts across five continents reveals a widening gap between technology adoption and measurable profitability at container ports and terminals. While 44% of respondents reported their organizations had scaled AI deployments beyond pilot programs, only 4% documented earnings improvements. Just 11% systematically measure AI's contribution to efficiency or margins.

Document processing adoption leads at 62% of facilities, followed by equipment failure prediction at 48%. Operational benefits are evident — 74% cite improved efficiency, 44% report faster decisions and 41% identify cost cuts. However, only 18% see customer experience gains.

Unclear return on investment represents the primary adoption barrier, cited by 41% of respondents, while data quality issues and legacy system integration challenges follow. Senior executives express greater confidence than frontline implementers, with 44% of non-executive staff questioning returns versus 21% of C-suite leaders.
