Schneider National announced a new service agreement with Norfolk Southern to operate rail intermodal services across the eastern United States, positioning itself as the sole fully asset-based provider on a single-line transcontinental railroad pending Norfolk Southern's merger with Union Pacific.

The partnership expands Schneider's access to key East Coast markets while maintaining operational flexibility. The company operates a fleet of 23,900 chassis and 26,800 containers supported by over 60 rail hubs across North America.

Schneider said the Norfolk Southern agreement complements its existing relationships with CPKC, including participation in the Southeast Mexico Express connecting Mexico to Texas and southeastern markets. CEO Jim Filter noted the company leverages multiple providers based on service capabilities and market needs.

The announcement accompanied third-quarter results showing adjusted earnings per share of 29 cents, one penny below consensus expectations.
