Trailer Bridge, Ports America Ink Decade-Long Jacksonville Terminal Agreement

Trailer Bridge and Ports America have locked in a 10-year stevedoring and terminal operations contract covering the carrier's Jones Act barge service linking Jacksonville and San Juan, Puerto Rico. The agreement covers cargo handling at Blount Island terminal and includes two optional five-year extensions. Ports America will supply stevedoring labor and terminal management while deploying its Dockworks terminal operating system at the facility. Customer-facing visibility tools are expected to launch in 2027, providing shippers real-time tracking of trailers and containers on the Jacksonville-San Juan corridor. The partnership consolidates cargo functions under a single terminal operator experienced in ro-ro, breakbulk, and Jones Act operations. Executives expect the integrated platform to reduce terminal handoffs and boost equipment utilization. The deal also aims to deliver more consistent service for shippers dependent on the route. The agreement cements Jacksonville's position as the mainland's primary gateway for Puerto Rico-bound freight.
