DHL Express has rolled out its Heavy Weight Express service across the U.S. market, four months after the initial announcement. The offering handles individual shipments up to 1,000 kilos with maximum weights of 3,000 kilos per consignment.

The launch reflects a broader industry pivot toward higher-margin freight segments as integrators retreat from the crowded business-to-consumer parcel space. Oversized shipments conflict with automated parcel systems designed for smaller packages, prompting carriers to pursue dedicated heavy cargo channels.

HWE operates as an end-to-end service leveraging DHL's proprietary infrastructure, freighter fleet and equipment. Each shipment receives dedicated team assignment and specialized handling for fragile, valuable or regulated goods. The company is establishing Heavy Weight Priority Desks globally.

Fixed pricing without handling surcharges distinguishes the offering from traditional parcel services. DHL targets technology firms, manufacturers, life sciences companies and sectors including automotive, engineering and pharmaceuticals.
