Ethiopian Airlines in Talks for Up to 10 Boeing Cargo Jets

Ethiopian Airlines is negotiating a potential order for as many as 10 Boeing freighters, according to industry sources familiar with the discussions. The carrier is expected to pursue two 777F models alongside an unspecified number of next-generation 777-8F aircraft. The split strategy reflects Ethiopian's need to augment cargo capacity while awaiting delivery of the newer 777-8F, which faces extended certification timelines. Boeing initially targeted 2027 for 777-8F deliveries but has pushed that date to 2028, pending 777-9 approval. The established 777F model continues attracting buyer interest, with 102 tonnes of revenue payload and a 4,970 nautical mile range. Boeing is currently seeking an emissions exemption from the Department of Transportation to continue producing 777Fs beyond 2027. The company aims to move 35 additional aircraft before 777-8F variants reach the market.
