FMCSA Alerts Industry to Four Fraudulent Motus Portal Websites

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration has warned trucking companies about a phishing campaign targeting its new Motus registration system. Scammers are directing carriers to four fake websites designed to mimic the legitimate federal portal. Fraudulent emails claim an urgent off-cycle profile update is required and use the subject line "Notice of Required Off-Cycle Update- Motus email." The messages direct recipients to click a "New MOTUS Portal" button linking to counterfeit sites. FMCSA stressed that the agency uses lowercase lettering for "Motus," while fraudulent messages use all capitals. Regulators urge companies to verify website addresses before clicking links. The FMCSA launched Motus on May 19 to replace legacy USDOT registration systems. Suspected fraud should be reported to the Federal Trade Commission, FBI Internet Crime Complaint Center, or local law enforcement.
