Nine in 10 transportation and logistics leaders say their technology investments have met or exceeded return-on-investment expectations heading into 2026, according to a Sparq industry report. However, 62% of those same leaders are pressuring vendors to accelerate payback timelines — a tension highlighting the sector's shift from proof-of-concept to proof-of-value initiatives.

The survey included more than 300 decision-makers and influencers from brokers, truckers, parcel carriers, and last-mile delivery companies. Looking ahead to 2027, roughly 90% expect their technology budgets to increase, though 20% still report budget constraints.

Legacy systems emerged as the top operational challenge, cited by 25% of respondents, followed by data quality and talent gaps. Fuel and labor costs ranked as leading external pressures. The report recommends tying investments directly to measurable business outcomes rather than technology milestones.
