Four Detained After CDL Violation, Immigration Issues Uncovered in Michigan Traffic Stop

A commercial truck stop in Saginaw, Michigan on Nov. 11 resulted in the detention of four occupants after authorities discovered multiple violations. A Michigan State Police motor carrier officer initiated the traffic stop on Hanchett Street near Davenport Avenue due to defective equipment and an improperly secured load. During inspection, the officer determined the driver lacked a valid commercial driver's license. Five people occupied the vehicle, none carrying identification or speaking English. U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents responded to assist in identifying the occupants. CBP conducted immigration inspections and determined four of the occupants were Honduran nationals unlawfully present in the U.S. after overstaying their visas. Those four men were taken into federal custody. The driver received a citation for operating a commercial vehicle without proper licensing. The trucking company owning the vehicle was cited for equipment violations.
